New hose classification system

1st Quarter 2017 Hydraulic systems & components

Parker Hannifin has introduced a new system comprising three hose classifications: Good – Better – Best. The classification aims to simplify the selection of appropriate hose for different applications.

The classification Good includes the newly developed medium pressure BCH1 und BCH2 hoses, combined with the series 16 fittings. This new fitting series has been developed to meet and exceed international standards whilst remaining price competitive. In addition, the classification Good includes SX35 and SX42 high pressure hoses with the 73 and 77 fitting series. This classification has been developed mainly for demanding smaller and medium size OEMs and Parker distributors. Typical applications are found in agriculture or construction equipment machinery.

The Better classification includes hydraulic hoses from well-known brands such as Elite No-Skive in the medium pressure area and Parkrimp No-Skive in the high pressure area. These exceed prevailing standards and are therefore the preferred product selection for very demanding MRO and OEM markets.

The Best classification includes the state-of-the-art GlobalCore hose product range which exceeds the newest ISO 18752 standard and provides technical excellence together with cost effectiveness for the most demanding customers.

The superior performance of Best hoses versus Better and Good is defined by a 50% smaller bend radius and 30% higher flexibility (bending force). The hose weight is 20% lower and the outside dia-meter is 25% smaller. Furthermore, the working temperature is up to 25% higher and the impulse resistance and service life are up to four times greater than products classified as Good or Better.

How to protect against water hammer
SA Gauge Editor's Choice Hydraulic systems & components
Water hammer is a high-pressure surge or wave created by the kinetic energy of moving fluid when it is rapidly forced to stop or change direction, altering the liquid’s velocity. The progression of the water hammer shockwave needs to be detained and slowed before reaching the instrument sensor. SA Gauge manufactures several such devices in order to achieve this.
