Hydromobile comes of age

4th Quarter 2012 Hydraulic systems & components

Hydraulics company Hydromobile turned 21 in August and celebrated with a glittering dinner dance at Emperor’s Palace for clients, suppliers, staff and friends.

Hydraulics company Hydromobile turned 21 in August and celebrated with a glittering dinner dance at Emperor’s Palace for clients, suppliers, staff and friends.

A party of note

Over 300 guests were treated to a sumptuous meal, followed by a full casino experience, compliments of Hydromobile. To add to the excitement, a prize of R25 000 to travel ‘absolutely anywhere’ was offered to the person making the highest winnings. Relationships are important to Hydromobile; following a funny and anecdote-filled presentation by founder Roger Noble, friend and long-term supplier Grant Robertson entertained guests with his humourous poem about the long and often rollicking road he has travelled with Roger and co-founder Bruce du Plessis since he first supplied them with motors 21 years ago.

Meteoric growth

Started in 1991, Hydromobile has grown from a small importer of hydraulic filters, valves and power packs to a national leader in the supply of hydraulic components and is now one of the largest power pack suppliers in the country. This is a result of the high quality of its hydraulic products and the exceptional customer-driven service of its highly qualified and experienced team. Through a combination of innovation and interaction with its customers, the company also delivers unique turnkey hydraulic systems that are customised for each individual client.

International brands

Hydromobile has invested considerable time and effort in sourcing hydraulics products that are suited to the South African business environment and has earned the commitment of internationally respected component suppliers. Over the years it has successfully negotiated sole distributorships with many suppliers and its range of hydraulic components can be found in a wide variety of applications and industries.

Listening to the market

Recognising that customer needs and applications are diverse, Hydromobile in 1995 began manufacturing hydraulic power packs. In addition to its range of simple standard units for non-specialised situations, it manufactures a wide and flexible range of customised power pack solutions to suit individual needs, complete with electrical control by relays or PLC systems.

Innovation

Hydromobile is constantly in touch with its customers and in 1996 responded to their needs with a range of high quality electro hydraulic actuators with a unique patented manifold system. This allows the actuators to be developed and manufactured according to the exact specifications of customers. Originally developed to meet the needs of the company’s mining clients, today these actuators are installed at over 600 sites across the country.

Versatility

Hydromobile’s versatility is evident in the variety of industries it serves. It has an established client footprint in the mining, transport, agriculture and railway industries. A high level of repeat business proves its commitment to customer-driven service.

Training

Hydromobile also runs very popular three-day hydraulics courses. Presented by technical director Sidney Badenhorst, they offer an excellent understanding of hydraulics systems, how to design a hydraulic circuit and the functionality of valves, pumps and motors. A get-together in the company’s beautifully decorated fifties bar tops off the experience.

Caring for the community

Hydromobile takes its commitment to empowering and aiding disadvantaged people very seriously. Two learners are sponsored and mentored at local schools, where donations have also been made. In addition, Hydromobile has an ongoing programme to raise awareness of Parkinsons disease and the devastation it causes. The company was certified as a Level 5 BBBEE company in 2011 and is currently in the process of upgrading its status.

Geared for another 21

Hydromobile is going from strength to strength and is well positioned to meet the challenges ahead. “Although the future is unpredictable, we will always strive to be ahead of the game and to provide our customers with a level of service unmatched by any of our rivals,” concludes Roger.

SA Gauge Editor's Choice Hydraulic systems & components
Water hammer is a high-pressure surge or wave created by the kinetic energy of moving fluid when it is rapidly forced to stop or change direction, altering the liquid’s velocity. The progression of the water hammer shockwave needs to be detained and slowed before reaching the instrument sensor. SA Gauge manufactures several such devices in order to achieve this.
