Air motors for demanding situations

4th Quarter 2014 Pneumatic systems & components

Dowson & Dobson’s comprehensive range of Deprag air motors is ideally suited for use in demanding operations. They are protected against corrosion and water damage as the housing is made from stainless steel and is fully sealed. The high quality design prevents dirt from entering the motor. The drive spindle is also made from a high quality stainless steel which is resistant to aggressive chemicals. “These air motors are ideal for use in wet rooms and can withstand the acidic materials that are used in paper factories,” says assembly technology manager, Herman Parsons. “Another safety feature is that Deprag motors automatically shut down if there is an overload without causing any damage to the motor. Once the overload has been cleared, operation can resume immediately.”

Parsons explains that one of the main benefits of using an air motor is the high performance density, meaning that a smaller motor can be used. The motor performance can be altered by changing the operational pressure, and the speed of the motor can be controlled by adjusting the exhaust air flow. Small, compact and simple construction, as well as light performance weight and high speed ranges, result in higher performance levels than traditional electric motors. The air decompression removes the heat created by friction in the motor, making overheating impossible. The inner excess pressure of the motor prevents dust and dirt from entering the unit. They can function without oil, making them ideal for use in environments where oil cannot be used, such as the paper industry.
