Europe's largest photovoltaic installation

1st Quarter 2011 News & events

Bonfiglioli recently played a fundamental role in the development of Europe’s biggest photovoltaic park by supplying 50% of its inverters.

Inaugurated by SunEdison in November 2010, the park has an installed capacity of 70 MW and covers an area equivalent to 120 football pitches. The installation comprises 840 km of cabling and 50 km of cable ducts. The modules are supported by 57 885 steel posts embedded in the ground and 6090 tons of steel have gone into the supporting structures.

Situated in the Italian province of Rovigo, the park will produce enough energy to supply 16 500 homes and will eliminate 40 000 tons of carbon dioxide (the equivalent of taking 8000 cars out of circulation every year).

The installation was connected to the grid in just nine months and Bonfiglioli was involved on a number of fronts right from the start. Key players in the Bonfiglioli team were the Spanish subsidiary, which managed the relationship with SunEdison, and Bonfiglioli Vectron, which made it possible for the installation to go online in time. Professionalism, product quality and teamwork were key factors in meeting this tight schedule.
