SEW launches Drive Academy

3rd Quarter 2011 News & events

SEW-Eurodrive has launched a Drive Academy in South Africa as a result of an increasing need for customer training. “With more and more customers asking for training, there is no doubt in our minds that this is the right time to launch this initiative,“ says Rene Rose, general manager Communications, who will be heading up this new business initiative.

The concept is modelled on the Drive Academy at the company’s German head office. Training is practical and demand specific. It covers theory, but customers also have the opportunity to practice on up to date equipment. Here they can simulate what they experience in the field.

A wide range of training courses is available. They cover topics such as geared motor maintenance, condition monitoring and the basics of drive engineering. Other courses are more product specific and offer customers the advantage of a subject matter expert who is fully versed in the SEW-Eurodrive product range and its applications. Trainers received expert training from Germany in addition to being operational in the field. They therefore offer a wealth of knowledge on the SEW products.

SEW-Eurodrive also offers demonstration models to companies wishing to do their own training. This is often the case with companies elsewhere in Africa. They send a trainer for training and this knowledge is then transferred to staff back at the plant.

“Adequate training means less downtime for the customer,” concludes Rose.
