Schneider Electric puts a spark in your step

2nd Quarter 2013 News & events

Schneider Electric and Amaury Sport Organisation recently announced the signing of a partnership for the Paris Marathon, in which Schneider Electric became the first ever title sponsor. By signing for a period of four years with the prestigious event, Schneider Electric has joined a select group of companies that are official sponsors of major city marathons such as New York, London, Berlin and Chicago.

“The Schneider Electric Paris Marathon is the perfect platform to emphasise our brand values: care, connect, challenge and commit. We see a unique opportunity to link our brand to the spirit and values embodied by the timeless challenge of the marathon, but with a focus on the people, the technologies and the ability to do things differently,” said chief marketing officer, Aaron Davis.

Some of Schneider’s exciting innovative energy management solutions were on display at this year’s event to highlight the many ways energy can be efficiently tracked, saved, and transformed. For example energy pads installed at the registration area allowed runners to get a readout of the energy they produced in kilowatt-hours; and energy tiles along a 25 metre stretch of the Champs Elysee captured the energy generated by the runners – each footstep can generate as much as eight watts of kinetic energy – and fed it back to batteries charging display screens and electronic signs along the route. A total of 4,7 kilowatt-hours were generated during the race, enough to power a laptop for 52 hours. “In the long-term, our ambition is to make the Schneider Electric Paris Marathon the first energy positive race in the world,” concluded Davis.
