One of SKF’s leading customers in the South African mining and minerals industry required special large size, multi-groove wedge belt pulleys for use on various floatation cell drive mechanisms.
“As the required pulleys are non-standard, they are expensive and have longer made-to-order production times,” notes Frans Pienaar, product manager – power transmission, SKF South Africa. The SKF solution for the customer included large, multi-groove wedge belt pulleys for critical process equipment at the plant. According to Pienaar, the high quality product, competitive pricing and reduced production time secured the order for SKF.
Pienaar says that the customer was impressed with both SKF’s product reliability as well as the timely product delivery which eliminated the risk of production losses due to component unavailability. “More good news for our customer is that as we also now have the patterns for these pulleys, we will be able to guarantee our customer consistent and reliable production times in the future.
“This solution assisted us to expand SKF’s product offerings to include our core technologies, bearings and power transmission products, to existing mining and minerals processing customers,” he concludes.
