A new direction for Hydrocylinder
2nd Quarter 2013
News & events
Hydrocylinder has been in the hydraulics business for 15 years and is now poised for growth into new markets. The company is organised into four main business areas: hydraulic cylinders, manifold blocks, hydraulics training, and draughting and engineering consulting services. High quality, combined with outstanding customer service, are the foundations of the business.
Off-the-shelf or tailor-made cylinders
As well as manufacturing and supplying hydraulic cylinders, Hydrocylinder also supplies cylinder kits and chrome stock (honed tubing and chromed shafts). There are two cylinder ranges: an off the shelf agricultural range and an industrial range of customer-specific cylinders which are tailor-made for each individual client’s requirement. The cylinders have a wide range of applications in the mining, agricultural, machine tool and industrial cylinder industries.
The agricultural range has its own registered trademark. The Harvesta low pressure cylinders (pressure rating 170 bar) were designed as replacements for tie rod cylinders. They are manufactured to standard sizes and are available ex stock. In the medium pressure industrial range (pressure rating 250 bar) cylinders are customised to suit each customer’s specific needs.
Manifold blocks from inception to implementation
Hydrocylinder also designs and manufactures manifold blocks. With the addition of a new CNC machining centre equipped with extra machines, the company is well placed to meet the needs of the hydraulics industry. “Starting with the design, we can go all the way through manufacture to implementation into a machine or system,” says Hydrocylinder managing director, Sidney Badenhorst.

Extended range of training courses
Hydrocylinder also runs a very popular three-day series of hydraulics courses. Presented by Badenhorst, they offer an excellent understanding of hydraulic systems, how to design a hydraulic circuit and the functionality of valves, pumps and motors. These courses have become so popular that Hydrocylinder is extending the scope and now also offers courses on proportional hydraulics, logic elements, cooling in hydraulic systems and load sensing.
Draughting and consulting
Hydrocyinder is now also offering engineering consulting and draughting expertise as a value added service to the hydraulic industry. This service includes the compilation of instruction manuals and data packs.
New logo, new premises
The highly qualified and experienced Hydrocylinder team will be moving to new premises in centrally located Aeroport in June. With a new direction and a new logo, Hydrocylinder is building on its reputation of providing high quality hydraulic products backed up by exceptional customer-driven service. “We are focusing on our core business and building on our strengths, and we aim to grow the Hydrocylinder brand into a new dimension,” concludes Badenhorst.
