SEW-Eurodrive expands its reach

3rd Quarter 2013 Electrical switching & drive systems & components

Drive engineering company SEW-Eurodrive has gained substantial market share in the southern African conveying industry through its range of locally manufactured X Series helical and helical-bevel gear units. The robust range of helical and helical-bevel gear units can be optimally adjusted to the task due to finely stepped torque ratings.

The main area of application for the X Series is conveyor systems. The gear units perform a reliable service in driving conveyor belts and bucket elevators for horizontal and vertical transportation of materials. They also run the travel and hoist drive on cranes. The X Series is an invertible gearbox, which means that the range can be used for left and right handed applications. The gearbox can be flipped on its axis by 180 degrees, and boasts some of the best thermal ratings and characteristics in the market.

The SEW-Eurodrive export business has grown by 33% in the past financial year. Mozambique is one of the company‘s most rapidly developing markets. Major industries for SEW include coal, microbreweries and maritime applications such as ports and harbours.

SEW-Eurodrive also boasts a dedicated engineering department that assists customers with the complete drive package and custom designed solutions. Drive packages include components such as industrial gear units, motors, couplings, brakes and base plates. Customers benefit from the fact that they can obtain the complete and fully assembled drive package from a single source, while a large local stockholding allows for shorter delivery times and increased flexibility.

Looking to the future, general manager for sales and engineering, Conrad Pilger is optimistic that SEW-Eurodrive will continue to achieve sustainable growth throughout the African conveying industry.
