Spherical roller bearings reduce grease consumption

Schaeffler’s new sealed FAG E1 X-life spherical roller bearings reduce grease consumption by up to 80%. An innovative seal concept allows the egress of grease to be minimised and eliminates the need for complicated relubrication systems while maintaining the same high dynamic and static load rating. The compact bearing, which has the same outside dimensions as non-sealed standard bearings, is therefore almost maintenance free and is also protected against contamination.

By replacing external seals with the sealed FAG bearings, valuable installation space can be saved. The bearings also have higher dynamic load ratings and a longer operating life due to improved kinematics, optimised surfaces and high performance materials. The floating central rib used for guiding the wear resistant cages and rolling elements allows an optimum frictional torque and increases the performance of the bearings while making them even more energy efficient.

The bearings are also available in a low noise design, which is ideal for use in elevator systems, for example. This version of the spherical roller bearing is extraordinarily quiet thanks to its special grease and the improved rolling element and raceway surfaces. Due to their robustness, the bearings are also frequently used in the continuous casting plants of steelworks as they have a high static load carrying capacity and maximum insensitivity to the ingress of foreign particles at low speeds and they are resistant to the high temperatures that occur in continuous casting plants.
