Festo has refined its range of pneumatic components to improve hygiene in food and beverage processing applications. They are made of corrosion resistant materials and now have a self-adjusting cylinder cushioning PPS, which eliminates the need for a food-trapping adjustment screw. This has made the cylinders easier to clean, as well as improving pneumatic operation in harsh environments.
In addition the sealing materials and lubricating greases have FDA approval for use with food. A modular sealing system allows the right seal to be chosen for every application. FDA compliant seals offer a longer service life, while grease-free operation makes them suitable for a wide range of temperatures from -40 to 120°C.
Festo supports its series of products for the food, beverage and packaging industries with a range of easy to clean accessories. The cylinder sensor SMT-C1 for example is resistant to cleaning agents, heat and mould, and can be mounted directly on both the DGRF and DSBF cylinders using the sensor rail. The tubing and fitting combination of PLN and NPQP can be assembled quickly and easily and ensures long-term trouble-free operation, even in corrosive environments that are subject to intensive cleaning. The NPQP fitting is a practical alternative to costly stainless steel fittings.
In conditions where additional protection is required, a pre-assembled system can be supplied in a customised control panel. Produced locally in Isando, these custom solutions are delivered as a complete unit, ready to install with minimal commissioning. Festo system engineers are available to program and integrate the system on site where needed.
