The Zest WEG Group has announced that it will introduce IE3 compliant electric motors as standard across its entire product range from January 2015. The group currently offers IE2 electric motors as standard. CEO, Louis Meiring points to the company’s newly introduced three year warranty period as another example of its proactive approach to boosting the bottom line for its customers.

Sales and marketing director, Gary Daines, says that while South Africa lacks a minimum energy efficiency standard, IE3 is fast becoming the norm in developed markets such as Europe and Australia. “WEG has always been ahead of the game and we are therefore able to offer IE3 as a standard product, while we even have IE4 electric motors available,” he explains.
He adds that all the benefits of this decision accrue to the customer as the change will be at no additional cost. “We have achieved this by obtaining a higher efficiency at the same capital cost,” he continues, pointing out that the capital cost over the lifespan of a motor only accounts for 5% of the total cost of ownership. Improving the energy efficiency effectively reduces the real operating cost of the machine. He adds that the introduction of the new standard is in line with Zest WEG Group’s current product range. “There is no risk or unexpected change for the customer from that perspective. With the new IE3 products the payback period is effectively reduced to a year.”
