Hansen’s ultimate drive package

September 2010 Electrical switching & drive systems & components

Electra Mining 2010 will be home to the gear technology and mechanical power transmission specialist for the 10th time.

A cross section of the company’s respected and trusted product range will be on display. Products include the Hansen P4 large industrial gearbox, the locally designed, award winning Hansen l4 invertible gearbox and the modular M4 Air Cooled Condenser (ACC) gearbox.

The well known Hansen industrial P4 gearboxes, with torque ratings up to 1300 kNm, are drive partners for aerators, conveyors, mixers and cooling towers across southern Africa. These rugged and reliable large industrial gearboxes set the benchmark in the harsh and highly demanding water treatment industry, where downtime is unacceptable and aerator/mixer drives are required to last for 100 000 hours operating around the clock. The P4 noise levels of approximately 75 dBA are still amongst the lowest in South Africa and well below the accepted 85 dBA level.

The Hansen I4 gearbox, available in six sizes, with torque ratings up to 100 kNm, was designed by the company’s South African engineering team more than 10 years ago. The design allows the unit to be inverted, ie turned 180° for either handing, eliminating the need for separate drives. The South African coal mining industry has recognised the advantages of the Hansen 14 and has largely standardised on this.

The Hansen M4ACC design incorporates proven Hansen P4 technology and is a cost effective, efficient solution for air-cooled steam condensation plants. It is ideal in dry environments with limited water resources. Hansen is supplying 768 M4 ACC gearboxes to two local power stations that have standardised on these units due to the unit’s impressive design features. These include effective and efficient cooling capabilities, an integrated dry-well and the absence of external lubrication piping.

The 24/7 assembly and repair facilities ensure excellent service and after sales service support from highly trained technicians as well as a dedicated field service team. In addition, Hansen drive solutions are supported by maintenance programmes which include oil changes, service inspections as well as on- and off-site maintenance.
