The company’s pig signaller, SONOPIPE 12, is used to detect the passage of pigs in pipelines carrying liquids. Ultrasonic sensor probes are retrofitted onto the pipes in situ so they do not require to be perforated in any way. This avoids sealing problems and contributes to safety. The use of compact sensors with integrated sensor electronics leads to a very high interference resistance and allows for reliable operation in rough environments.
Measurement is not affected by pigs equipped with magnetic systems.
Besides the relay output which is available for process control, further outputs can drive signal lamps and sirens as optional equipment. In addition to signal analysis, the control parameters can also be set remotely using any PC or laptop with the specially developed software SONOVIEW.

Typical applications for such sensors would be in pipelines conducting oils, liquefied gases or water, with pipeline diameters from 200 mm to 1500 mm. These are typically found in the petrochemical industry.
