New efficiency standards for induction motors

The challenge for manufacturers to design motors for the global market which conform to different specifications for efficiency and energy consumption has become increasingly difficult. To clarify this situation, new efficiency standards and directives applicable to three-phase cage induction motors have recently been introduced. These new global specifications will make it easier for users to understand the differences and similarities between standards in various countries.
Leroy-Somer’s range of electric motors meets stringent international regulations, including the new standards that define the efficiency of a three-phase cage induction motor.
The new European IE2 standard, which is the level equivalent to USA’s Eff1 or energy efficiency standard, comes into effect in 2011. Leroy Somer’s research and development team has kept abreast with these developments and the local operation is already able to supply Class IE2 IP55 industrial electric motors.
The LSES/FLSES series is available from 0,75 kW to 375 kW, in 2-pole and 4-pole versions. The totally enclosed three-phase asynchronous motors are modular in design and offer various mechanical options. They have non-standard features which include tapped or plain hole flange mounting, a special shaft and a customised terminal box. This comes in a composite material or an aluminium alloy. Electrical adaptations such as specific connections, voltages and thermal protection are also available.
Leroy’s Somer’s extensive range of electromechanical systems also includes variable speed drives using DC, asynchronous and permanent magnet synchronous technologies. These provide enhanced efficiency levels in diverse industries.
