Alert Pumpmor, part of the Becker Group of Companies, has extended its range of slurry, submersible, horizontal and vertical pumps to include a new series of heavy duty slurry pumps designed to cope with demanding environments.
“The RXL heavy duty slurry pump series encompasses a uniquely designed horizontal back suction unit,” says Fanie Nel, product manager, Alert Pumpmor. “The advanced design features of these back suction horizontal pumps set this series aside from conventional pumps, to ensure enhanced performance in all applications.”
RXL back suction horizontal pumps are manufactured to stringent OEM specifications. The unique back suction design takes pressure off the stuffing box and away from the gland, which means these components are only subjected to suction pressure.
This back suction design makes these units perfectly suited for high pressure series installations with maximum casing pressures ranging from 15 bar on the standard low pressure unit and 25 bar on the high pressure unit. The RXL Range is available in models 3 x 5-25 and 4 x 5-25. Both units come in both standard and high pressure configurations.
The casing clamp construction and back suction design enable easy replacement of wearing parts, without having to dismantle the suction or discharge piping. In applications where these pumps are installed in series, the discharge of the first pump can be connected to the suction of the second pump, with minimal pipework and no pipe bends.
These back suction horizontal pumps, which are available in four models, can handle solids ranging from 19 mm to 73 mm. This range has a performance of heads up to 100 m and efficiencies up to 70%. Heavy duty bearings, which offer extended service life, are selected to withstand operation for a minimum of 24 000 hours, at maximum speed and full diameter impeller. Maximum specific gravities are 1,4.
Another important design feature is the domed end cover construction that provides additional strength for high pressure applications. Thicker wall sections at wear points of the casing and impeller ensure extended service life and replaceable suction and end cover liners protect the casing from abrasive wear.
For extra protection, the shaft sleeve and impeller hub threads are sealed from the liquid being pumped, and external adjustable screws ensure easy impeller adjustment to maintain optimum performance of the pump.
Drive arrangements of this series include an overhead drive, directly coupled or a Z-adjustable assembly. Self-tensioning motor base assemblies are also available.
Another advantage of the design of these pumps is that the majority of spares are interchangeable. This reduces inventory management costs and ensures efficient onsite repairs. Because all components are locally manufactured, these pumps are readily available and a large stockholding of spares and raw materials ensures timely delivery.
Typical applications of these back suction horizontal pumps include alumina plants, phosphate mining, cement slurries, underflow, coal dust slurries, fly, soda and pot ash, as well as remote pump locations.
Alert Pumpmor employs a fully integrated ISO quality management system as part of a dedicated design, manufacturing, testing and repair facility.
