BMG recently supplied 2,6 km of Tsubaki NFP250 diffuser chain to IIlovo Sugar’s Sezela Mill. Valued at approximately R10 million and with a breaking strength in excess of 210 tons, the total weight of the chains was about 163 tons.
Tsubaki NFP250 chain is manufactured in Japan from special heat treated stainless steel pins and bushes for corrosion and wear resistance. Forgings grade EN19 alloy steel gives enhanced strength and reduced wear. With efficient maintenance a service life of about 15 years is possible. However BMG has had diffuser chains operating efficiently in harsh environments for over 20 years.
“BMG has made a considerable investment in new infrastructure for this project in order to cope efficiently with future demand,” says Scott Larson, general manager of BMG’s chain division. “New machinery includes hydraulic presses that easily accommodate an order of this size.”
The pins and bushes for this installation were manufactured by Tsubaki in Japan and the link plates were manufactured locally by BMG according to stringent Tsubaki specifications.
These components were forged, heat treated and machined in South Africa and the chain was assembled at BMG’s KZN Mahogany Ridge workshop and the ‘work in progress’ facility in Springfield Park. Local manufacture, with no shipping and transport expenses, offers substantial cost savings to the local market. BMG ensures that quality is of the highest standard throughout the manufacturing process.
In addition to diffuser chains, BMG markets and distributes a full range of Tsubaki sugar mill conveyor chains. The portfolio encompasses a full choice of sizes and various combinations of materials and heat treatments.
