New to Leroy Somer’s range of electric motors, drives and industrial automation systems are permanent magnet solutions for synchronous drives and motors which are designed to improve operating performance and reduce electricity consumption.
“One of the most important challenges facing global business today is the reduction of CO2 emissions. With the implementation of variable speed and the optimisation of mechanical systems, maximum saving of electricity consumption can be obtained in a power transmission system,” says Grant Robertson, managing director of Leroy-Somer, which is part of Emerson Industrial Automation. “The new Dyneo technology, which guarantees torque over wide speed ranges without de-rating or forced ventilation, significantly improves the drive’s efficiency and enhances specific output power.”
Motors from Leroy Somer in the Dyneo range are designed to rotate faster than induction motors, which means the motor speed can be easily adapted to that of the driven machine. This eliminates the need for transmission components such as gearboxes. Dyneo technology also enhances performance of the driven machine by increasing its operating speed.
LSRPM enclosed synchronous motors, with an aluminium frame size from 90 mm to 315 mm, have an available power range up to 400 kW. This series is smaller and lighter than conventional induction motors with the same power rating. LSRPM motors have an IP55 construction for protection against dust and water, torque ratings from 1 Nm to 1 400 Nm and speeds between 1 and 5 500 min-1.
LSHPM open synchronous motors, with a frame size from 250 mm to 280mm, are encased with an IP23 mechanism. The new toothed winding design has enabled the length of these motors to be reduced by 30%. Power ratings are from 12 kW to 600 kW, torque ratings between 1000 Nm and 2800 Nm and speeds between 1 and 3600 min-1.
This new compact range includes open and enclosed synchronous motors which are modular in design, with foot, flange or face mounted configurations, which means it is easy to replace conventional drives already installed.
The low losses of magnet rotor technology reduce temperature rise in the bearings which extends intervals between bearing greasing and increase the service life of the motor.
The compact design of this series, with a reduced size of the chassis supporting the motor, facilitates easy installation of the motor on site, the simplification of lifting equipment required and reduced transport costs.
This new high performance variable speed solution, designed for applications requiring high torque at high speed, enhances power transmission in pumping, ventilation, compression, conveying, extrusion, process control and generators.
