Rexroth modernises Bolshoi Theatre
Second Quarter 2005
News & events
Since 1776, the Bolshoi Theatre has been a symbol of Russian culture worldwide. Finding itself in need of restoration, the theatre has awarded Rexroth, represented in South Africa by the Hytec Group, the tender for the supply and installation of stage technology, as well as lighting, video and sound equipment. This project, with a total value of about 200 million euros, is the largest individual order in the company's history.
Rexroth will require all of its specialist knowledge in delivering electromechanical and hydraulic drives for the overhead or understage machinery and special stage sets. Rexroth's instrumentation and control unit for stage equipment, SYB2000, will ensure the safe operation of all technical equipment. This unit controls and monitors the movements of all machines, positions stage sets, lifts and lowers podiums and shifts stage trucks.
The first steel structures and the mechanical equipment will be erected at the beginning of 2006. Then, electronics, lighting and sound equipment will be installed. The theatre will be partially closed for the 30-month renovation period from May 2005 to January 2008.
