Wide range of new pressure sensors

Second Quarter 2005 Other technologies

In South Africa Gefran is known for its process controllers and indicators. Lesser known is the fact that Gefran, over the last 15 years, has produced high quality sensors which to date have only been imported as replacement parts for machinery. "However, this is set to change in the coming months as Gefran has recently released a new range of pressure transmitters designed to compete very well in industry," states Dieter Bütow, sales and marketing director of distributors, UniTemp.

Having the advantage of their own sensor manufacturing plant, Gefran have designed models for virtually all applications, including hazardous areas. Depending on the application, these models are based on three different sensor technologies and include bonded strain gauge for high pressure ranges with high accuracy demands, piezo resistive sensors for the mid range instruments as well as thickfilm wheatstone bridge types where the application demands moderate accuracy but the user is price conscious.

General industrial applications

TKG and TKF models, which are popular due to their cost-effectiveness, are being replaced with the new TK model. The latest range covers up to 50 MPa with a wide selection of optional inclusive ranges such as -100 to +100 kPa for applications with positive and negative pressures. Complementing the range are the TSA and TPSA models, which offer a wide selection of pressure ranges, output signals and process connections. All in all, there are more than 8000 variations the client can select from and in all cases the Gefran models offer superior pressure characteristics and safety.

For hazardous applications

The new XSA and high-pressure variant XPSA are designed for hazardous areas and are manufactured according to the ATEX 94/9/CE directive with protection measures in compliance to EN50014/EN60079-0/EN50020/EN50280. They are available for Eex ia IIC T6 and Eex ia IIC T5 classifications.

UniTemp as the sole importer of Gefran products is currently stocking up on the new models. "We expect to make an impact on the pressure market in 2005," comments Dieter Bütow, sales and marketing director. UniTemp has a strong distribution network throughout the southern African region and intend making this versatile range of pressure sensors easily accessible to industry.
