Hytec supplies South American OEM

Hytec Johannesburg has recently supplied seven thickener drives valued at more than R1-million to a South American original equipment manufacturer. This follows a decision by the client to appoint Hytec as its sole supplier of products and spares, having been greatly impressed with its engineering capabilities, logistics and service support when visiting the country last year.

Thickener drives are used for separating various solids from water in the gold, coal, paper, copper and platinum industries and in water treatment plants. Product is pumped into tanks with volumes of up to 7,5 Ml, where the hydraulic system drives a rake which separates the water from the solids.

Drives installed to date range between 100 kNm to 5 MNm output torques, and 11 to 55 kW in power output. The largest drive supplied so far is capable of producing 5 MNm of combined output torque, using six Calzoni radial piston drives in parallel. This translates into 500 Nm/drive at 80 rpm and a pump flow of 100 litres/min. The hydraulic system is currently running at half speed and performance could be doubled if required.
