Johnson appoints Yale sole southern African distributor

Third Quarter 2005 News & events

Yale Industrial Products Engineering Products Division has acquired the sole southern African distributorship of Johnson rotary joints for all local industry and corrugating manufacturing (excluding certain papermill applications, at present).

Although Yale Industrial Products has held the southern African agency for the majority of the Johnson-Fluiten products for some time, its through its consistent performance and success it takes on the entire range of Johnson traditional products. One noteworthy addition is the Johnson SX Rotary Joint, which is the upgrade of the S joint.

Features include the ability to function with oil, water, and steam. There are two internal support guides, the seal diameter is optimised with a convex seal ring in compression, and there is maximum carbon guide separation. These features provide improved joint and syphon support and a self-aligning seal, which means improved application flexibility, increased life and reliability, and reduced maintenance.

The self-supported SX rotary joint provides a positive seal between stationary piping and a rotating cylinder and may be applied to steam, water, and hot oil service. Incorporating two internal carbon-graphite bearings that permit self-alignment and long operating life - even on cylinders that are not concentric. Using new sealing technologies, the SX joint has extended seal life and increased reliability along with application flexibility.

The convex seal ring and optimised seal diameter provide extended seal life and reduced maintenance for the SX joint. The concept of applying different seal geometries to different media (steam, water, and oil) gives the SX joint a strong point of differentiation as well as a marked improvement in performance. This rotary joint line is available in sizes from 3/4" to 3" and can be used in single- or dual-flow applications. The joint is rated up to 343°C, 550 RPM, and 3,5 MPa.

Kevin Hoy, general manager of Yale says: "This appointment is a major accomplishment for us. We are really pleased to have the prestigious Johnson brand under the Yale umbrella and can now offer our valued clients broader and more comprehensive solutions than ever before. Our rotary joint range has been greatly extended and includes joints purpose-made for steam and hot oil applications. The ongoing Yale commitment to client economy, convenience, reliability and safety is absolute.

We have always found the Johnson-Fluiten range to be extremely reliable, as only high-quality materials are used in the Italian-designed and manufactured joints and all products are tested before shipping. The Johnson range is equally reputable. We now offer southern Africa rotary joints for almost any application and if we do not have it, they probably do not make it!"

About Johnson

Johnson, founded in 1933 during the Great Depression, continues market domination under a third generation of family leadership. Through consistent research and development the Johnson group have been pioneers and developers with concepts such as the first 'packless' self-aligning, self-adjusting rotary pressure joint and have also originated the development of rotary joints and unions for global use in a number of industries. All this has made Johnson a worldwide leader in its field, especially with regard to specialised steam and hot oil joints.
