Guide clearance monitor

Fourth Quarter 2005 Other technologies

The Shaftslide II has been developed by Tilt-Tech as a guide clearance monitor and datalogger for mine hoist applications. Rock movement or shifting underground can seriously distort and narrow the gap between guides with serious safety consequences for miners.

The Shaftslide II system comprises:

1) A spring loaded measuring probe having two precision linear potentiometers with a total measuring range of 50 mm.

2) A datalogger and display unit that provides readouts during monitoring that logs the displacement. Data logged is time and date stamped. The data can be retrieved and downloaded to programs like Excel and Quattro for post-processing and graph preparation. An alarm will also sound when preset limits are exceeded.

3) A photoelectric sensor with a range of 700 mm ensures that logging takes place at each cross member.

4) A plug-in mains charger for charging the 12 V rechargeable battery pack inside the unit.

5) PC application software on CD-ROM.
