'Practical Engineering Design 1.' - a goldmine of information

'Practical Engineering Design' is dedicated 'to all those present and future aspiring engineers, who are or will be entrusted with the design, maintenance and repair of machines and structures'.

Roy Hemingway originally compiled the information as a set of notes for his personal use, which came about as a result of converting all the old formulae to their metric equivalents. The result is a goldmine of useful information. Avoiding masses of calculus, its scope is quite broad and practical, including useful information for many areas of mechanical engineering. The 296-page, soft-cover A4 book sells for a little over R200 - which is in line with the author's desire to have as many people begin 'speaking SI' as soon as possible - which certainly would make life easier for all of us.
