New range of plug-in sub base valves

Third Quarter 2004 Other technologies

Motion and fluid control specialists, Norgren, represented in South Africa by sole local agents, Ernest Lowe, has launched a new range of plug-in sub base valves. Its VS series offers flexibility and superior configurability, giving OEMs a competitive edge when they need to make quick, effective specification decisions. High flow, long life and I/O capabilities deliver further competitive advantages down the line to the end-user.

Suitable for a wide variety of markets such as packaging, paper and printing, materials handling, machine tools and the automotive industry, the valves use proven valve technology to deliver high flow rates through two different spool technologies. Its makers report that the glandless spool and sleeve valve offers high operational figures (200 million cycles), while the soft seal spool valve delivers exceptionally high flow rates. The result is superior flexibility, as the right spool for the job can be selected without installing a second valve system.

These performance figures have proven the endurance and reliability of the range. Minimal maintenance is required, and should a valve eventually need replacement, the system allows for quick and effective exchanging, with minimal interruption.

Most industry-recognised protocols such as Profibus-DP, DeviceNet, CANopen, Interbus-S, AS-interface and AB RIO are recognised by the VS valves. The system sub base integrates the required electronics and, as the valve island is the same size for both fieldbus and multipole, offers once again the advantage of flexibility.

Available in 18 or 26 mm widths, the VS series features three different port options (ISOG, NPTF and built-in, push-in fittings) and a valve interface compliant with ISO 15407-2. High quality materials and precision manufacturing ensures that these robust and durable valves can handle harsh operating environments. The two valve sizes have flow rates ranging from 550-650 l/min (for 18 mm) to 1000-1350 l/min (for 26 mm) and feature a wide variety of sandwich plate accessories such as pressure regulators, flow controls, single valve shut-off plates and intermediate supply and exhaust modules. With IP65, NEMA 4, CE, ATEX and UL 429 approvals, the VS series is suitable for all markets.

By using the Norgren online valve island configurator, machine builders can simply and easily define a set of parameters, such as the number of valves and flow rate, to satisfy individual specification requirements in combinations from one to 16 valves. OEMs can configure solutions to match individual specifications and, should the system be required to evolve, it can be configured in the field to match the changes. Once again, the flexibility of the system delivers advantage to OEMs through minimal downtime and reduced modification time.
