LV relays interface with PLCs and other control circuits

Third Quarter 2004 Other technologies Access Control & Identity Management

The NK motor protection relays from NewElec's N Series are designed to protect motors in various LV applications. The relays are fitted with a 4 to 20 mA loop to indicate percentage motor load current as well as having four potential free normally-open contact outputs to indicate the fault status of the control panel-mounted LEDs. This enables interfacing to PLCs or other control circuits that may be situated in a separate control centre.

Protection is provided against thermal overloads, locked rotor, jam/running stall, and phase unbalance/loss conditions. The relays provide 250 mA earth leakage protection with a dedicated changeover contact as a shunt tripping facility for MCCBs, irrespective of the fault current level.

The NK relays have a PLC reset facility from 24-220 V a.c. or d.c. They also offer local and remote reset facilities, a thermal LED bar graph display and a fail-safe mode with memorised thermal status of the motor and trip fault conditions.
