SEW-Eurodrive South Africa will be the first company in the industrial geared motor and drive electronics sector to comply with the Black Economic Empowerment Act. Hans Sondermann, the worldwide general manager of Sales and Marketing as well as Claus Oestringer, the area manager for the Asian Pacific region of SEW-Eurodrive GmbH, visited South Africa to sign the shareholders agreement and issue the share certificates to HDSA shareholders who were given the opportunity to collectively acquire 27% of the company.

The estimated investment into South Africa from SEW-Eurodrive in Germany is valued at R100 million, and marks a significant investment from the SEW-Eurodrive group, in comparison to any other country worldwide. South Africa is also the first country in the world where individuals are granted shareholder status in the SEW-Eurodrive group.
SEW-Eurodrive is an internationally successful family-owned business with about 8600 employees and sales of Euro 1032 million. Assembly plants and offices in 40 countries are staffed with specialists from the respective area, combining technical expertise and services of a 'global player' with the specific insights of a regional partner. All components are pre-manufactured in Germany, France, USA, China, Brazil and Finland. The final products are assembled and combined to meet specific customer needs in 56 assembly plants located all over the globe. South Africa has four SEW assembly plants in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nelspruit and Durban.
