Eight Hansen cooling tower drives for gold mine

Fourth Quarter 2004 News & events Products & Solutions Power Management

Hansen Transmissions, global specialists in industrial gear technology and power transmission solutions, received an order to supply eight off gear units to Anglo Gold's Kopanang gold mine outside Potchefstroom earlier this year. The six off RNE 24 and two off RND 24 gear units will be driving wet induced draft cooling towers and will replace older Hansen gear units that have been in operation since 1985.

According to Hansen Transmissions managing director, Torsten Schultz, Hansen Transmissions was the preferred supplier because of the reliable performance of the existing units. "Our application engineering also played a prominent role in securing this order. We extend our service beyond the sale of a product and we dig deep to guarantee customers the best possible application solution. Dedicated application engineers support customers with design, power transmission solutions, training, failure analyses, maintenance and repair advice, as well as condition monitoring interpretation to offer the best solution to meet customer requirements," explains Torsten.

"We customise to any shape, form or order and our policy is 'standard for us, customised for the user'. Standard or off-the-shelf components are easily replaced with readily available stock for optimum customer peace of mind and minimum downtime," Torsten concludes.

Commission date for the cooling tower drives was set for October this year and Hansen Transmissions agent, Spectrum Marketing, will be looking after Kopanang's service requirements.
