New servomotor series

Fourth Quarter 2004 Electrical switching & drive systems & components Information Security IoT & Automation

Concentrating the high dynamic properties into a small space, the new CMP servomotors from SEW-Eurodrive are particularly suited to installations with limited axial and radial space. Becoming available at the end of this year, the CMP servomotor series is a new generation that is aimed at more than satisfying these demands. The latest winding technology and a high degree of development expertise help make this series a market-driven servomotor product range with suitable dimensions.

The CMP motor series rounds off the current CM servomotor series from SEW-Eurodrive in the lower torque range. Starting torques from 8,3 Nm to 0,4 Nm are covered by three CMP motor sizes and a total of eight motor steps.

Combining benefits

The CMP 40, CMP 50 and CMP 63 servomotors have an innovative electrical design. New production technology has been employed in the development of these motors to ensure they are as compact as possible and to create an optimum magnetic flux between the stator and rotor. This ensures that the resting periods are negligible and maximises the overload capability of the motors.

The smooth running properties are of a consistently high quality right down to the minimum speeds. At speeds of up to 9000 rpm, the CMP motor has a bearing service life of 20 000 hours and correspondingly high overhung loads, ensuring dynamic performance.

Optimal heat dissipation for the convection-cooled motor and the UL-capability of the motor series is achieved using a special stator casting technology. The dynamic properties are derived partly from the low inertia of the rotors, which is achieved through innovative magnetic technology. The mass inertia of CMP servomotors could be optimised by further reducing the rotor diameter, a must for applications demanding high accelerations.

Straightforward start up

The CMP motors are fitted with low-inertia resolvers as standard. Hiperface encoders in single or multiturn design can be fitted as an option at the user's request. They are supplied with an electronic nameplate so that start up is made easy using SEW's servo controller: Movidrive.

The motors can also be supplied optionally as brake servomotors. A 24 V spring-loaded brake, adapted to the standstill torques of the individual motors, ensures the drive stops safely when it is de-energized. The brake also includes emergency stop features. All motors without brakes are smaller to ensure they meet the demands of a compact design.

Compact and quiet

The new servomotors fulfil the latest requirement for motors to be as small as possible. The flange sizes of the three motor sizes are: 55 mm, 73 mm and 88 mm. The hole circle diameters are 63 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm and the shaft ends meet the market standards, being divided into 9 x 20 mm, 11 x 23 mm and 14 x 30 mm.

The CMP40, CMP50 and CMP63 servomotors are offered as a motor without a gear unit with B5 flange and also with SEW servo planetary gear units (PSx) and SEW servo right-angle gear units (BSx) for direct mounting. Consequently, the servo gearmotor with a servo planetary gear unit (PSx) mounted directly achieves a maximum output torque of up to 3,3 kNm (the PSx gear units themselves can achieve a peak torque of up to 4,2 kNm) and the motor/gear unit combination with BSx can achieve a maximum output torque of up to 1,91 kNm.

The advantages offered by the servo gearmotors are their compact design, low-noise levels, low heat output and the reduction in the rotating mass of the gearmotor. There is no need for the usual adapter with coupling between the gear unit and motor, and the input pinions of the gear unit are connected directly to the standard motor shafts of the servomotors with zero backlash and a positive connection.

The CMP servomotor can be run correctly with the Movidrive servo inverter. The compact SEW servo controller, which fulfils all the requirements of CMP40 as of size 0 with 4,8 A peak current (0,75 kW), extends the field of application of the SEW servomotors significantly.
