Compact and robust range of frequency converters
Fourth Quarter 2004

CHI Control, a member of the Alstom (SA) group of companies, is offering the Vacon NX series of frequency converters. According to Errol Smith, sales manager at CHI Control, the new range is characterised by a modular and robust design that makes it suitable for even the most demanding of applications. "It is an advanced drive that offers a wide temperature range and a multilingual control panel, ensuring simple and fast installation and operation - very versatile," he says.
The range offers users new application capabilities and possibilities for keeping stock and spares to a minimum. The NX is compatible with its predecessor, the Vacon CX, so all drawings, installation and training material can be re-used. In addition, a wide selection of option cards open up new possibilities for re-configuring the drive to future requirements. The wide voltage range, high overload ability and a user-friendly alphanumerical keypad make the choice of the correct drive easy.
Smith says that reliability and safety are enhanced with the product's continuous run-time, self-supervision and alarm system. "Product testing was performed on fully assembled drives. Each drive was tested at maximum temperature and motor load prior to shipment - it certainly is a safe option."
The NX's easily configurable multilingual control display all-in-one software package is pre-installed, and a wide selection of application software is available, including an engineering tool for creating new applications. The Vacon NX provides two different control units, the NXS with its standard open loop sensor-less vector control software, is sufficient for the majority of applications. The NXP features high performance closed loop control software for more demanding applications. The design approach of both control units incorporate the same application packages, control panels, I/O cards and PC tools, ensuring ease of use.
