Extended range of position transducers

First Quarter 2005 Other technologies

Gefran now covers a comprehensive range of position transducers: from all types of potentiometric transducers to innovative contactless absolute linear transducers - believed to be the widest range of offers in Sub Saharan Africa.

Linear and angular position transducers measure the position of moving parts. As a result, it is possible to reduce cycle times by having position feedback on acceleration and deceleration ramps or exact intercept actuation points during the stroke.

Gefran's range now adopts a variety of advanced technologies to measure position: from the time-tested potentiometer conductive track where the resistive track and collector are connected electrically by contact brushes, to the magnetostrictive type that uses magnet characteristics and micro-elastic deformations of the main element to identify the exact position of the cursor.

These transducers are manufactured with heavy-duty materials, such as anodised aluminium and 316 Stainless Steel, for harsh conditions in industrial applications. Additionally, its environmental protection levels range from IP 40 (mild dusty conditions) to IP 68 (submerged in fluids).

The lifespan ranges from 100 million cycles, for contact potentiometer transducers, to practically unlimited cycles due to the absence of contact in magnetostrictive transducers. The output of the magnetostrictive transducers is accurate within 0,5 mm (for a 2,5 m device), and within 40 µm in the case of a 100 mm transducer.

Gefran's position transducer range is guaranteed up to five years depending on the application. Distances covered by the range run from 10 mm to 4 m, with options of self-alignment or fixed alignment, contact or non-contact, internal or external cursors and with outputs ranging from V/mV to 4-20 mA or 0-10 V. It is now also possible to have integrated 'SSI' or 'CAN OPEN' communications protocol.
