No uphill for incline conveyor drives

Hansen Transmissions, a specialist in mechanical power transmission and drive solutions, was chosen to supply two incline Flexowell conveyor drives for a leading steel mill in South Africa.
Each drive includes a main Hansen bevel helical QHRM3 gearbox with double extended low speed shaft, a 650 kW 3,3 kV 4 pole motor and high speed fluid coupling with cooling provided by radial fans.
Hansen Transmissions managing director, Fritz Fourie, says that this particular application demanded highly detailed specifications in order to accommodate the very steep 62° incline. "Both drives were fitted with a holding brake complete with hydraulic power pack, a hold back, a low speed flexible gear coupling and an inspection drive (18,5 kW) at a nominal speed of 0,4 m/sec", explains Fourie.
He outlines some of the specifications: "The two Hansen conveyor drives will run parallel and adjacent to each other and the specifications required that the drive units be interchangeable between the two conveyors, hence shaft extensions on either side were provided. We also manufactured and supplied robust, shot-blasted, painted base frames to accommodate installation of the entire drive units."
Hansen Transmissions' staff will align each drive unit with the drive pulley and lend professional support during commissioning.
