CMG sells largest motor
Second Quarter 2007
News & events
CMG South Africa, part of Australian multinational CMG, a leading manufacturer and supplier of electric motors, drives and transmissions, recently delivered a 1000 kW, 690 V PPA motor to Exxaro (Ticor) for driving a displacement pump at its Hillendale mine in Empangeni. The order is valued at R461 000 and CMG Durban now holds the record for selling the largest motor ever sold by CMG in South Africa.

Exxaro placed the order for the PPA motor with CMG on 8 February 2007, "Because", explains Exxaro's electrical technician, Jaco Timmerman, "When the existing motor at the Hillendale mine failed, CMG was the only company that could immediately supply the giant electric motor to suit the mine's urgent application."
The motor, supplied with an ABB AC variable speed drive which drives a WIRTH positive displacement pump, was delivered on 10 February and, with the help of CMG South Africa's managing director, Brian Campbell and his team, a very quick turn-around time was achieved with all necessary modifications (fitting of force vent and insulated non-drive end bearing) completed.
