German manufacturer KEB has been manufacturing motion control components since 1972, and frequency inverter systems since the early 1980s. KEB drives are applied in automatic storage/retrieval machines for heavy-duty, pallet or small-parts warehouses, in materials handling, for lifting equipment and transverse distribution devices.

DrivePos software has been developed for the F5-series inverter. The DrivePos operator plugs onto a standard F5-inverter to convert it into a tailor-made drive for the special requirements in the storage and materials handling technology.

DrivePos, in combination with the F5 inverter allows the operation of all popular asynchronous and synchronous motors and the use of a wide range of different encoder feedback technologies.

The drive can operate as a position-controller, speed-controlled drive, field-oriented-controller with or without feedback or as U/f-characteristic-controlled inverter.

DrivePos F5 offers simple operation with competent drive performance. Initial setup involves the entry of motor nameplate details into the drive, entry of dynamic plant data in SI-units (m, m/s, m/s², m/s³) directly from the design data of the machine. The system incorporates integrated positioning algorithms and only requires a single control word and position setpoint from the host system. This results in a reduction of the communication overhead between drive and PLC system and the elimination of computationally intensive positioning tasks in the PLC.

DrivePos F5 is available for Profibus and Interbus operation.
