AEP network develops supply chain skills

Fourth Quarter 2007 News & events

SAPICS, The Association for Operations Management of Southern Africa, offers a range of training programmes in the fields of manufacturing, logistics and distribution, as well as materials management. The association is also the South African custodian of two internationally recognised certifications: the APICS (The Association for Operations Management in the United States) CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) and APICS CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional).

The challenge of maintaining and developing the industry's skills is widely recognised as one of the biggest facing the supply chain sector. SAPICS is playing a significant role in addressing this skills deficit, and has announced that its industry-specific education programmes are now offered throughout South Africa and as far afield as Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania, through a growing network of Authorised Education Providers (AEPs).

AEPs come from diverse business areas. Some focus on education and skills development in industry and logistics, some are consulting companies that extend their offering to include supply chain education, whilst some AEPs have their own warehousing facilities in which they can offer hands-on training. Nairobi-based Integrid Business Solutions, headed by Joseph Omollo, is SAPICS' AEP in Kenya. Omollo holds the honour of being one of the first people in Africa, and the first in Kenya, to attain the APICS CSCP qualification.

The Annual SAPICS Conference and Exhibition is the premier educational and networking event in Africa for supply chain management professionals. The 2008 event will be held at Sun City from 29 June to 2 July 2008.
