Eaton Corporation is adapting its advanced digital hydraulic hybrid drive system technology for US Army vehicles. The goal of the project, which is being done in conjunction with Western Michigan University (WMU), is to develop smaller and lighter drivetrain components, increase fuel efficiency and improve traction and stability for army tactical vehicles.

Development work will be conducted by scientists and engineers at Eaton’s Innovation Center in Southfield, Mich., in cooperation with WMU’s Center for Advanced Vehicle Design Simulation (CAVIDS) in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Also actively involved in the project is Eaton’s hydraulics headquarters location in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

Net income for the quarter was $5,5 million, or $0,11 per share, compared to net income of $7,1 million, or $0,15 per share for the third quarter 2006. Siemens Industrial Solutions And Services Group (I&S) has received an order from Anglo American Chile to supply a 22 MW gearless drive for a 40’ (12,2 m) SAG-mill and two 16,4 MW gearless drives for two 26’ (7,92 m) ball mills for its Los Bronces Development Project. After Cadia Valley Operations and the Sino Iron Project this will be the third location where Siemens gearless drive systems are installed on 40’ SAG-mills.

Anglo American decided to exclusively install gearless driven mills in the Los Bronces plant to avoid time-consuming maintenance and power losses due to girth gear and pinions. The design yields mill drives with the lowest life-cycle cost and highest production figures.

Rexroth is providing the complete hydraulic system and a maintenance facility for the launch pad, which is part of the launching complex for the Russian Sojus launch rocket. The facility is being built at Kourou, the European space station in French Guyana, South America.
