Hägglunds opens doors in SA

Second Quarter 2008 News & events

Hägglunds Drives has opened its doors to the South African market by launching a sales office in Meadowdale, Johannesburg. With interest for its drives on the increase in the country since the 1980s, Hägglunds realised that it would be beneficial to serve the demanding market with its own South African office.

South Africa MD Kalevi Niemi says: "We have great potential in South Africa and by opening up this office; we are showing the market that we are grateful for the support through the years and are now here to solidify our existing relationships."

"We will serve the market in areas including sales, service, preventive maintenance, installations, commissioning of new and retrofitted applications as well as repairs."

Since starting to export to South Africa in the early '80s, the company has supplied drives to Eskom, Kumba, Mondi and Sappi. Hägglunds is targeting the pulp and paper industry, power, mining and bulk material handling sectors. "We will supply anyone that requires the installation of low speed, high torque drives," says Niemi.

The drives feature excellent drive control, high starting torque, adaptable installation and easy application and their shock-resistance makes them suitable for use in harsh environments.
