The Modbus remote terminal unit (RTU) gateway is the latest addition to Moeller’s range of fieldbus couplers for SmartWire – Moeller’s flat-cable connection system that connects motor starters directly to the controller.

The manufacturer claims that the SmartWire system is simple to configure, reduces PLC I/O requirements and eliminates wiring errors while drastically reducing the wiring, terminal and connector requirements for contactors, motor starters and remote I/O. Gateways for Profibus-DP and CANopen/easyNet are already available in South Africa.

The new Modbus gateway meets the requirements of a wide range of machine and system building applications. It makes possible the connection of up to 16 contactors, motor starter combinations or SmartWire I/O modules to the Modbus RTU fieldbus.

The fieldbus interface of the gateway allows point-to-point communication via RS232 or multidrop integration into a new or existing Modbus network via RS485.

Moeller’s Modbus gateway (SWIRE-GW-MB) supports data rates of 9,6, 19,2, 38,4 and 57,6 Kbit/s, and can be connected to virtually any configurable serial interface.
