Schneider Electric has recently won orders to supply three 630 kW containerised variable speed drive (VSD) winders.
To facilitate re-deployment at various sites, each drive and control system is fitted in a standard shipping container. Initially two winders will be used in India and another at Kalagadi Manganese in South Africa. The winders are designed with dual low-speed motors to keep mechanical costs down and for redundancy. The units are designed so that winders can run on either a single motor or both, depending on the application.
The drives are based on the latest Altivar 71 variable speed drive with onboard PLC and network braking unit. Flux vector control will be employed to control the torque in the motors and to ensure stable master-slave operation. The winders are fitted with the Schneider Electric e-Lilly controllers (a PLC-based version of the classical Lilly electromechanical winder safety device) for conveyance protection against over speed and stage collision avoidance.
