SEW-Eurodrive has supplied space-saving parallel shaft helical and helical-bevel gear units for an eight-stage 200 m floating conveyor which transports gravel from a dredger to dry land. The dredger collects gravel from the bottom of a lake at depths of up to 50 m and delivers it to the floating conveyor system at 200 tons per hour.
Together with a marine engineer, 3B Hungária, an Hungarian manufacturer of materials handling technology, developed a framework that floats on pontoons. The belts are driven by the space-saving SEW-Eurodrive gear units, which ensure jerk-free start-up with up to 30 percent overload. After a six-week construction period the plant was floated out onto the lake and it has been successfully transporting construction and filling material ever since.
