Ball screw nut has twice the balls

3rd Quarter 2010 Other technologies

Bosch Rexroth has introduced a 2-start FED-E-B single nut which is double threaded and flanged. The key feature is an additional circulation of balls that doubles the ball count and thus increases the load capacity. This enables machine tool manufacturers to improve the load capacity of ball screw assemblies without changing the dimensions.

The rotation symmetric design allows both the screw and the nut to be driven. Bosch Rexroth provides the ready to install ball screw assemblies cut to size with machined ends.

The new nut is available in screw diameters of 40 to 63 mm. This high performance nut, in conjunction with multithread precision screws with pitches of 20, 25 and 40 mm, reaches travel speeds of up to 150 m/min.

The new nut is available with standard play, reduced backlash, and 2% or 3% preload. This gives high positioning accuracy and repeatable precision. The dimensions, mounting hole pattern and centre diameter correspond to the standard versions of DIN 69 051, section 5, flange form B.

The manufacturer claims that the service life of the double threaded nut with standard seals is up to eight times longer than that of a single threaded nut.
