Obituary: Dieter Hans Glowacki
4th Quarter 2010
News & events
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Dieter Glowacki. He was an active participant in SAFPA since its inception over 25 years ago, and was granted honorary membership in 2008.
Born in Germany, Dieter was an enthusiastic and successful athlete in his younger years. In 1957 he joined Robert Bosch and later moved to South Africa to set up the company’s Diesel Electric operations. He then joined Hytec to help develop the hydraulics industry in South Africa. After working in various other hydraulic companies he started his own business, Hydrovis, in 1966. He also worked for Festo and ran seminars on pneumatics and hydraulics well into his retirement years.
Dieter was a man who believed in getting the most out of life. He continued to run his own company when most would be relaxing. He continually educated himself and always found time to attend SAFPA technical presentations. On the social side he loved music and took piano lessons when well over 70 years..
Dieter was one of the founding fathers of SAFPA and the industry is truly grateful for the role he played. His memory will remain with us for a long time.
Dieter passed away on Friday 25 June 2010 after a long battle with cancer. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Ruth, his son Holli and three daughters, Irina, Binta and Yule.
