For the harsh and arduous environments found in mining or heavy industry, Schneider Electric South Africa provides an ideal solution with its flagship range, the Compact NSX MCCB. This is claimed to be the world’s first intelligent moulded case circuit breaker (MCCB) to integrate full power management functions along with power protection.
The original Compact NS circuit breaker was synonymous with high performance and innovation, and set the industry standard for MCCB. The subsequent Compact NSX is another low voltage innovation from Schneider Electric (23 new patents pending). It is based on power protection by NS, while exceeding NS in features and performance.
Compact NSX is an all-in-one compact device and it also contains a monitoring unit to track energy consumption and power. Monitoring consumption can reduce energy costs by as much as 10%.
Compact NSX measures, processes and displays data, either directly on screen, on the switchboard front panel, or via a monitoring system. This is possible thanks to the Micrologic electronic tripping device and the next-generation sensors. These comprise the ‘iron-core’ sensor for the power supply to the electronics and the ‘air core’ sensor – the Rogowski coils – for the measurement.
Other features embedded in the NSX series include the double rotor-active contact structure for current limiting; reflex tripping for quick breaking on high faults; and modular design for ease of use.
