Tectra Automation supplied Bosch Rexroth pneumatic components to Volkswagen South Africa for use in its new Polo manufacturing line.
Working with VWSA’s project department, Tectra designed a solution to be used on all of the VW250 body shop fixtures. Components, pneumatic valves, service units, pneumatic cylinders, linear slides and carriages were supplied.

For safety the Tectra team developed the basic diagram examples for the fixtures with and without hands-on/air-off applications. The team also set up safety specifications regarding the service units; throttle valve application for cylinders and clamps; load holding applications; and a general guide governing the maximum amount of clamps per valve. These were given to the OEM to be used as a guideline during manufacture.
The plant is now fully commissioned and production has begun.
