Explosion protected purifiers
2nd Quarter 2011
Pneumatic systems & components
BMG’s filtration division has launched a range of explosion protected purifiers from Pall for use in hazardous areas where explosive gases may be present, in applications such as power generation, mining, steel mills, aluminium smelters and oil refineries.
Two new HXP explosion protected fluid conditioning purifiers were recently delivered to a petroleum refinery for use on turbine compressor lubrication systems which are susceptible to water and gas ingress. These maintain lubricant properties, minimise fluid oxidation and reduce aeration. The service life of fluids and system components is thereby significantly extended. Other advantages are improved equipment reliability, minimal corrosion within the system and reduced fluid disposal. Pall purifiers do not need extra heat, thus reducing the energy required to remove water and gas.
HXP units comply with international quality and safety specifications and are classified for Zone 1 and Zone 2 in T4 class and the IIC gas group. They remove 100% of free water and more than 80% of dissolved water. They also remove 100% of free and entrained gases and more than 80% of dissolved gases. They have a stainless steel base frame and vacuum vessel. All fittings and fasteners are manufactured from corrosion protected carbon steel.
The purifiers have a flow rate of up to 70 l/min at 50 or 60 Hz, with fluid viscosities to 700 cSt. The fluid operating temperature range is between 10°C and 70°C. Seal materials are designed for petroleum based fluids and specified synthetics.
Automated controls constantly monitor the operation of the purifier. If acceptable limits are exceeded, it is automatically shut down.
