Power packs for Morupule Colliery

1st Quarter 2012 Electrical switching & drive systems & components

Hansen Transmissions SA (HTSA) received two orders for the supply of 34 industrial gearboxes from long standing customer, Morupule Colliery in Botswana.

“HTSA and Morupule Colliery have always enjoyed a solid business relationship and orders for 110 kW power packs date back to 1991,” says HTSA key account manager, Clive Dicks. “This order included a mix of Hansen I4 gearboxes and geared motors, varying from 7,5 kW to 250 kW installed power. The underground portion of the order was received directly from Morupule Colliery while the surface expansion order was from Fluor,” explains Dicks.

“The local HTSA team sourced long lead items well in advance to meet crucial delivery deadlines. Due dates were staggered and we were on schedule to deliver strictly to the time lines,” he continues.

The colliery was responsible for commissioning of the underground drives and Fluor for the surface, and the HTSA team was onsite to complete the commissioning checklist, which is usual procedure for all HTSA projects. The technical team was on standby to assist plant technicians and engineers with advice and after sales service.

“Superior quality, locally assembled products, exemplary service and a policy of strong customer relations management are factors that define HTSA as a company,” comments Dicks. “Our portfolio includes blue chip southern African companies that have been with HTSA for decades, proof that relationship management together with quality is a winning combination,” he concludes.

“Our engineers combine international know-how with local application knowledge and are skilled in analysing customer requirements to offer valuable technical advice in order to recommend the best, most cost effective and holistic solution,” says managing director, Fritz Fourie.

HTSA has a skilled field service team on round-the-clock standby for onsite repairs and advice and extends the service offering with maintenance plans incorporating regular machinery checks; reports; early detection of wear and tear; preventative maintenance; as well as onsite repairs to keep downtime and loss of production and revenue to an absolute minimum for customers.
