Educational technology for disabled children
2nd Quarter 2012
News & events
Voith Turbo, specialist suppliers of hydrodynamic drive, coupling and braking systems, recently donated 10 Smart Boards to the Ithembelihle LSen School for physically disabled children in Johannesburg.
Ithembelihle LSen School was selected by Voith as its corporate social responsibility partner in 2011 and has over 200 learners with physical disabilities such as muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, cerebral palsy and amputation. Ten Smart boards with supporting projectors and laptops, to the value of R380 000, were installed in the school’s classrooms in August 2011, replacing the old chalk boards. The Smart board’s ability to display the computer’s output and its touch screen functionality allows teachers to provide far more interactive lessons in the classroom.
The school celebrated the donation of the computer based interactive whiteboards at their prize giving ceremony on 8 December 2011, when the management team of Voith toured the school, participated in the ceremony, hosted the lunch and handed out toys and sweets to excited learners.
Voith also contributed to the school’s sound financial management by donating accounting software and providing administrative support and training for the school’s administrative staff.
