The right connection every time

3rd Quarter 2012 Electrical switching & drive systems & components

Voith Turbo South Africa is a specialist supplier of high quality shaft-to-shaft connecting couplings, as well as customised coupling solutions designed to reduce wear and maintenance stoppages and increase service life.

Couplings are primarily used to connect two pieces of rotating equipment. They are chosen for their misalignment and/or flotation capabilities and can further influence machine performance by allowing for easy disconnection, absorption of shock loads, protection against overloads and vibration reduction. Voith’s coupling range includes the unique resilient and membrane couplings, which are well complemented by the Falk Gear, Grid and Wrapflex elastomer couplings.

Due to its high bore capacities and torque ratings, the Falk Gear coupling can typically be found in low speed/high torque applications. The high capacity, combined with a relatively compact size, make it a suitable choice for applications with limited space. Falk Grid couplings combine the economy and high torque capacity of a gear coupling with the torsional flexibility of an elastomer coupling. Falk non-lubricated Wrapflex couplings are environmentally friendly and are also quick and easy to install and maintain. Motors or drives need not be moved when replacing the elastomer element, thus avoiding the need for time-consuming realignment.

“Whether the demand is for absorption of shock load or for high torque in a small space, our expert product knowledge and industry experience enables us to offer the right coupling solution to suit any application,” says Varma Parag, Voith product manager.
