Vital equipment for the NSRI

2nd Quarter 2014 News & events

SEW-Eurodrive has been sponsoring drive equipment for the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) for many years and has supplied several of the stations with SEW inverters and geared motors. The NSRI, the charity that saves lives on South Africa’s waters, was founded in 1967 and is run by 940 volunteers – all of whom are unpaid and are on standby throughout the year.

NSRI Station 3 Table Bay commander, Patrick van Eyssen notes that SEW-Eurodrive has been supplying top class equipment to the NSRI for many years. “The NSRI needs reliable winching equipment as we cannot afford to have a problem launching a rescue craft during an emergency. SEW-Eurodrive has supplied the Waterfront with two drive units and controls for our big 14 ton boat Spirit of Vodacom and the smaller rigid inflatable boat Rotary Endeavour,” he explains.

He notes that the sponsorship from SEW-Eurodrive has been a huge help to the NSRI. “For our station the sponsorship from SEW has been great. SEW has also sponsored winches for Simon’s Town, Hout Bay and Bakoven rescue stations, allowing us to launch rescue crafts safely and efficiently,” he adds. According to van Eyssen SEW-EUrodrive has gone above and beyond to help the NSRI. “SEW goes out of its way to assist Station 3 whenever we have a problem. I believe that our relationship will continue in the future,” he concludes.
