Tectra Automation recently designed, manufactured and supplied extrusions to house Sun Coast Casino’s renowned seven square metre video wall. The installation took the linear assembly technologists just two days to complete. The video wall comprised 16 premium 115 cm LFD screens. To house these, Tectra designed a variety of extruded components, including 40 X 40 and 80 X 80 profiles. In addition to these extrusions, existing proprietary mechanical hardware had to be assembled with extreme precision to ensure the spaces between the screens were no more than half a millimetre apart.
“There has to be the smallest of gaps between the screens,” says Greg Calder product manager for linear motion and assembly technologies. “If they rest on each other, there is a high risk of failure as the screens can suffer from a phenomenon known as screen compression, resulting in complete failure of the screen. In addition, if the screens are not perfectly aligned then reading text messages or displaying images becomes almost impossible as the alignment jumps across planes.” Tectra Automation’s experience in linear assembly technology enabled the company to design and supply componentry for the whole cavity – sitting at 4,1 X 1,7 metres – in a very tight timeframe. “The extrusions reduced the installation time to less than 30% of what it used to take; considering that the installers could only access the casino after 9 pm, it is a remarkable feat that the team completed this project in just two days,” concludes Calder.
